ARTIST BIO
Albertan folk/roots duo Flint & Feather are passionate about cultivating community through writing and performing original music, telling stories, and sharing laughter with others. Drawing upon Western Canadian history, Rocky Mountain folklore, and their own colourful life journeys for inspiration, husband-and-wife team Joal and Lauren Kamps create ‘Rocky Mountain Folk-Pop’ songs that tell stories with uncommon charm.
Through their intimate combination of delicately woven harmonies and vivid lyrical imagery, Flint & Feather often evoke comparisons to Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, The Milk Carton Kids, John Denver, and The Civil Wars. This classic singer-songwriter sound is where the Kamps seem to feel most at home – allowing their honest and engaging performances to genuinely connect with audiences of all-ages and backgrounds.
Currently based in Calgary, Joal and Lauren first began performing together in Toronto while attending Canada's Music Incubator's ‘Artist Entrepreneur' program. Soon afterwards they gigged cross-Canada with VIA Rail's ‘Artist-On-Board' program and toured 50+ dates throughout Western Europe and the United Kingdom. They have since performed hundreds of concerts together in various communities throughout Canada.
The Kamps are honoured Banff Centre ‘Musicians in Residence’ artist alumni, graduates of the Hornby School for Emerging Artists, and winners of The Prophets of Music Society's ‘Emerging Artist’ program. The have also performed official showcases for industry partners at the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance (SERFA) in Chattanooga, TN, USA, and the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) in Saskatoon, SK.
Flint & Feather recently released 'The Very Thing I Fear' – the debut single off their forthcoming full-length album Rebirth (a seven-track record of love, loss, hope, and redemption). It has already been picked up by campus and community stations across Canada – including Alberta’s very own CKUA. They are actively performing tour dates throughout Western Canada in support of its upcoming release in 2024.
